One of the Nation Greatest, Up and Coming Basketball Coaches
The owner and coach of the Charlotte, North Carolina’s Charlotte Rams, Karl Wilkes, has had a lifelong passion for basketball. He’s a second generation player who was trained professionally for six years by his uncle Jamal Wilkes. Jamal Wilkes played in the NBA for 12 years, eight of those years playing with the LA Lakers. He won 4 NBA titles, and is a member of the NBA Hall of Fame.
A History of Playing, Coaching, and Winning
In 1988, Karl won South Carolina’s first Slitz 3-on-3 Championship and made it to the finals of the Chicago National Championship. He was recruited by Coach Cliff Ellis to play for Clemson University Men’s Basketball team from 1989 to 1992. He was at Voorhees College as the Strength and Conditioning Coach from 1993 to 1994, and for Player Skills and Development from 1994 to 1995. In 1995, Karl played for one season of professional basketball for the London Lions in the UK, and was an Interim Assistant Coach at Grambling State University, under the direction of the legendary Head Coach Fred Hobda.
A member of the 500 Wins Club, Karl is a graduate of Clemson University, earning a BFA and MFA in 1992. Since then, he’s been a motivational speaker for Fortune 500 companies, and he’s also recognized as an international award-winning visual artist, touring with the White House to support their initiative on 102 HBCU’s.
